Different Seam Finishes
Depending on your fabric type and your preferred seam finish (whether every day or couture) it can be very useful to have a refresher on the most used seam finishes. Techniques were demonstrated along with samples to view that included flat fell, Hong Kong finish, bound and French seams. Overcast seams (on your sewing machine) and simple ideas to achieve neat seam finishes with the use of just a basic sewing machine without many stitch options were also discussesd. During the demonstrations different feet were used to see the role they play to increase efficiency and reduce time. Amongst the feet on show = the overcast feet (Foot C and M), ¼” seam foot, stitch in the ditch foot and blind hem foot.

The two different methods of making your own bias either with the hand held/manual clover bias maker or the Simplicity power operated bias maker were shown. This goes nicely hand in hand with the seam finishes in particular the Hong Kong and bound seams.
